I met him at an event where I had a little tiara on (a Comic-Con kinda thing where I was in cosplay) and he grabbed my hand, kissed it, and said "my, aren't YOU a princess?" I laughed in his fucking face and ran away. Best moment of my life.
wonderful flannery excerpt about contemplating experience vs. merging with it. reminds me of how being a writer/being drawn toward writing also comes with this strange, unavoidable feeling of being just at the outer edge of many situations — removed from experience just enough to observe. it can be a lonely orientation at times, that lack of complete merging... and often inadvertent? but there is something special about wandering through different realms of life, observing, thinking, feeling, articulating. an existential flaneur, i suppose. <3 (happy autumn, ira!)
I watched Prom Night and “fine” is an accurate description. The part where it turned into Saturday Night Fever for 5 minutes with Jamie telling her date “let’s show them what we can do!” was great/cracked me up. But that opening scene with the creepy Children of the Corn kids was irritatingly long. Gonna do Slumber Party Massacre next!
