I’m a Postal Worker — a Post Malone fan if you will. I’ve heard rumors that he would headline Coachella this year — alongside a changing list of Lady Gaga, Kendrick Lamar, Rüfüs Du Sol, and Green Day (in last year’s No Doubt slot). Now, it seems to be confirmed via Post Malone’s Instagram announcement for The Big Ass Stadium Tour.
I was planning to lace up my cowboy boots and attend anyway1, since I’ve attended Coachella every year since Beychella. And I’m grateful for the return to Indio at a festival that isn’t Stage Coach, because even with the rumors that Beyoncé would appear earlier this year, it wasn’t enough to get me to stay in the desert to see her. I like country music, but I don’t like country fans generally. At least, not the ones who attend Stage Coach.
The April 13 and 20th dates in Indio on Post Malone’s tour announcement are next year’s Coachella Sundays, meaning he’ll close out the festival each weekend. I’m sure we won’t get Beyoncé or Taylor Swift in attendance, but at least we’ll get to hear his parts of “Levii’s Jeans” and “Fortnight.”
Actually, Beyoncé might show up as a guest? Because who the hell can predict what that lady is up to anymore? After letting Cowboy Carter languish on the charts for a year with no promo, she’s suddenly performing at an NFL halftime show on Christmas Day. Fans are speculating it will double as a tour announcement.
If Bey does tour Cowboy Carter, I hope it’s at smaller venues than Renaissance. This album deserves a more intimate setting.
Also today in blunders, I generally love Marc Malkin at Variety — he’s one of the few prominent gay red carpet interviewers who asks gay celebs questions about being gay (shocking!). But he also asks goofy questions sometimes that you have to wonder if he’s doing it on purpose to go viral with a “can you believe he asked this dumb question?” headline.
Imagine asking Paul Mescal, an Irish person, what they think about meeting King Charles…
Btw, Gladiator 2 is excellent. I have an essay coming this week on the film, Denzel Washington’s amazing performance in it, and Washington’s career.
I’m terrified at how high Post Malone’s “I Had Some Help” (featuring, yes, Morgan Wallen) will appear on my Spotify Wrapped this year…
I'm sure these days a lot of your tickets and lodgings are comped, but I'd love if you did a post with your top coachella planning tips. A friend and I are talking about maybe trying to go for the first time if the Gaga rumors pan out, and if we do I'll have to be the planner.
I also love that song too much, Ira. Sigh.
