First, an announcement: We’re going to shift posts to Wednesdays and Saturdays starting this week.
Second, let’s start our first discussion thread by diving into the British Vogue feature on my favorite white woman of color, Angelina Jolie. Also, the eternal question, what’s with the hold up on Salt 2?
I need to talk about Playing By Heart, which is a movie I loved as a teenager and came out in 1998 before she was "discovered" in Girl, Interrupted. She wore gold pants and she was EVERYTHING.
Every time you talk about your desire for a Salt 2, I think about the weekend I watched both Inception and Salt while visiting my parents and my dad called Inception trash and raved about how good Salt was. He too, would like a sequel.
I have known and had a deep appreciation for Angelina since seeing her in Hackers (still one of my favorite movies to rewatch, the fashion! Freak! Matthew Lillard! Angelina topless in a motorcycle jacket! endless crash&burn jokes), Foxfire and Gia. To me she will always be a queer icon <3
I love Angelina and was always Team Angelina!!! For me, she shines in action movies, even if they aren’t the greatest (we can forget she ever made Tomb Raider 2)
I'm sad Salt is the only movie where Angelina Jolie played a Tom Cruise role. Let's do the next Mission Impossible and Jack Reacher with her instead. (I say this as someone who loves Mission Impossible movies.)
My first introduction to Angelina was when I was a child watching Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, and then the following People magazine gossip covers about her children and divorce. It feels refreshing to read this as an adult and see her completely separate from that view I used to have.
It feels really weird to me that so many people seem to brush off her film work and her humanitarian work. But maybe that’s just people in my own family and friend group. Might need to pick new people to hang out with haha
Am I going to get kicked out of here if I admit that the only Angelina movies I have seen are Girl, Interrupted and Maleficent? I guess I prefer Charlize in this particular brand of white woman.
I was all-in on Angelina when I saw Foxfire (that also has a young Jenny Lewis.) 'Me and My Charms' by Kristen Hersh that was featured in that movie is still a favorite.
When I saw 'Gia' is when I knew she was going to be a star. Fun fact: Mila Kunis played the younger version of Gia.
Angelina will always remind me of Life or Something Like it which I unfathomably watched religiously but cannot tell you a single thing that happened in it.
Goddess. Also, British Vogue covers are way better than US covers (at least in the last few years).
Oh Ira, it’s so affirming to know you love Angelina. I should have have trusted that you would be on the right side of history on this.
I saw Gia with my mom when I was like 10 years old god BLESS it 100% contributed to my queer awakening

Here’s a chaotic take: we already have a Salt 2. It is called Atomic Blonde.
I feel she is like the modern day Liz Taylor. I can't explain it, it's just the vibe I guess?
My Christian mother often says “though we are in this world, we are not of this world” but I’m pretty sure she’s only referring to Angelina Jolie.
She looks great and doesn't age etc etc, but LOL at her wearing a black turtleneck on the Vogue "Spring Fashion Issue".
First of all, yes. Def one of my first favorite white women. Second, let’s make up our own SALT 2 synopsis and send it to the studio ASAP.
Did you really choose this version of the cover OVER the mocha/tan and rottweilers cover?

The longer you look at this photo, the less her arm positions seem humanely possible... :D
Lara Croft forever. Video game was/is still my fav and she crushed it.
The dior trench coat pic 🥵🔥
I have never seen Salt. Don't get mad! I will get on it.
That’s a nice cover

Why is no one talking about Gone In 60 Seconds? Pretty sure that was my queer awakening.
Where is the foxfire love?

While we are at it...we deserved a Mr & Mrs Smith 2 as well...guess that ain’t happening either
Salt is iconic. It maybe too late for a sequel now?
Also, WE don’t talk about Angelina in Wanted and Taking Lives.
Also, we acknowledge Brad Pitt is boring.. right?

Her cheeks are back! Last time i saw a image of her... It was scary and so skinny.
In a world of Jane Fonda, Anne, and Brit, this is your favorite white woman?
Angelina will always remind me of Life or Something Like it which I unfathomably watched religiously but cannot tell you a single thing that happened in it.
Late to the convo. But AB wasn’t good it falls in line with Red Sparrow for me. We need Salt 2, period.
Was Gia in anyone else's canon of gay awakening or is it just me
Seeing Mr. and Mrs. Smith in theaters for the first time may have triggered my sexual awakening
Love Angelina always and forever. Where’s Salt 2?
Angelina is Iconic period!
I was very disappointed in her British Vogue What's in my Bag episode. She only had about 5 things in her bag.
