Welcome to III. Formerly known as Frank, this newsletter will continue to feature essays, criticism, and recommendations each week.)
If you’ve listened to Keep It this morning, then you’ve heard today’s announcement. I’m leaving the podcast after eight years. Yes, like Mulder leaving The X-Files (also after eight years), it’s time for me to step away and let Scully (aka my partner-in-culture, Louis Virtel) carry the show into its next era.
I’ve loved being part of Keep It, but my own creative work — particularly my writing — is where I feel most fulfilled now. I’m so proud of what we built, and I’m forever grateful to Crooked Media, our incredible producers and co-hosts over the years.
This isn’t a full goodbye to the podcast — I may still pop in from time to time. My final episodes run through July, so if you’ve fallen off, now’s the time to tune back in!
And for what’s next, III readers will be the first to find out.
I was surprised, but not surprised to hear the news today. For a creative writer like you to do the same gig for 10 years is FOREVER in artist-time. You created an amazing series of podcasts that will survive the test of time. Informative, necessarily ridiculous, always surprising, and always great guests. You had Cate Blanchett!!!!!!!
I will miss the chemistry between you and Louis the most. Of the tetrabillion of hours of podcasts out there, where else can you find a conversation that goes from "The Materialists" to Zootopia to ACAB to Louis's to fear of rabbits and back, it not only made sense, but felt vital and like the world was missing that conversation the whole time.
I humbly request in the custody arrangement, that we get to see you and Louis together at least twice a year (Pride and Christmas)?
I will miss your very thoughtful interviews. You were always super prepared, had the best intros ever, showed that you knew the guests well without becoming a fan or know-it-all. Like me, you had seen all the standard questions and knew how not to ask them while still letting the guests get their plug in!
You two were my bridge to "the culture" so I didn't have to feel as old as I am.
You are so talented, and I know you have big things ahead of you.
Please keep harassing Louis in regular frequencies.
Can't wait to see what you do next.
Congratulations but also noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
