Renaissance (Now in Theatres)
I have yet to fully form words yet, but this film was massive. More than a concert film, more than a tour doc, more than even just a peek into the mind of the machine that goes into creating Beyoncé. It’s a mixture of the personal, grueling, and emotional and one of the most joyous experiences I’ve had all year (and that’s after having seen the Renaissance World Tour three times).
May December (Netflix)
This film is some of Todd Haynes’ finest work. And it has a killer script from Sammy Burch. Julianne Moore and Natalie Portman turn in performances that stack up to their career’s best and Charles Melton is a thrill. He’s my favorite performance of the year. The film is eerie and funny and goddamn good time.
