It’s Election Day in the United States, and I’ve already mailed in my ballot to cast a vote for Kamala Harris. As America prepares to, hopefully, elect its first female President and send Donald Trump back to hell (Mar-a-Lago), I decided to revisit the last time I was in New York on Election Day. It was 2016, and I worked at MTV News. We had an election night special on MTV that was cut short when it became horrifically apparent that Donald Trump was going to win the election.
I left Viacom’s offices and went to bed, hoping the entire day was some nightmare. It wasn’t. It’s a feeling many Americans had that year. I remember riding the subway to work in complete silence the next day. Months later, I was traumatized again when The Real Housewives of New York City aired the episode featuring Carole Radziwill’s Election Night party, where Trump was named President-Elect.
Would I still find the episode as horrific as I did in 2017? I decided to find out by rewatching season 9 episodes “The Etiquette of Friendship” and “The Politics of Friendship” the night before Election Day. Even if it was still hard to watch, at least one thing would be true — it was definitely going to be a lot more enjoyable than the new episode of RHONY set to air tonight.
