Not enough has been said about the wildest scene in And Just Like That…, the Sex and the City sequel series. And it has absolutely nothing to do with Peloton. Nicole Ari Parker’s character Lisa Todd Wexley (who is very random but whatever, we love Black women getting a check) approaches Carrie, Charlotte, and Miranda and asks to eat fries on their table. Now sis… that is not Black behavior. I have never eaten off the table of a white person I don’t know in a restaurant, I am not Elaine Benes on a dare! And neither is LTW. Already this character is unbelievable.
Does she know where their hands have been? Let alone in a post-Covid world?? If that wasn’t bone chilling enough this week on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, Heather Gay drank Veuve from the bottle at a party. A practice I respected, until she started pouring the Veuve into other womens’ glasses. What in the good hell. I’m reminded of when I was at a school bake sale and my grandmother wouldn’t let me eat food a white friend’s mother was selling. “You know they let their cats walk all over the kitchen counter.” I didn’t believe her. Until I visited that friend’s house and well, saw the cat playing in the food as it was being cooked.
So no, I won’t be eating cold fries from another woman’s table and I won’t be drinking from the bottle of Veuve someone’s lips and spit were just on.
I’m currently traveling abroad for a much needed vacation and writing retreat (this book isn’t going to finish itself). I’ll clue in paid subscribers as to where I am with a few brief dispatches. But more from me in 2022.
